3c Claret, Ty. II (11A). Large to huge margins including part of adjoining stamp at top and bottom sheet margin, cancelled by "WAY" handstamp on buff cover to Buchannon Carroll & Co. in New Orleans, light strike of "New Orleans La. Mar. 2, 1857" circular datestamp, clear strike of "St. Louis & New Orleans Passenger Steamer Falls City, H.W. Smith, Master, Leaves New Orleans For...St. Louis Mar. 4, 1857" in ornate frame name-of-boat handstamp, usual small filing holes, Very Fine, a scarce marking, on April 14, 1858, just after leaving New Orleans, the boiler of the Falls City blew out, resulting in the loss of seven lives and severe damage to the John Simmonds, which it was passing by at the time, ex Simmons
