1c Blue, Ty. IV (9). Plate 1L, recut once at top and bottom, large margins to clear, deep rich color, tied by "New Orleans La." circular datestamp on cover to Buchannon Carrol & Co. in New Orleans, bold "DUE 3" handstamp, manuscript notation at top right appears to read "Union 20", usual small filing holes as always on this correspondence, Very Fine and unusual use, this probably arrived by steamboat and the sender tried to pay 1c for drop rate but this was treated as unpaid, ex Rust
