Sale 1140, Lot 1354, Revenues, Wine Stamps$40.00 Yellow Green, 1934 Issue, Wine (RE107B). Serial no. 18072, violet "Lombardi Wines Dec. 11, 1940" handstamp cancel and a few staple holes as usual, perfs trimmed at left, light vertical crease between stamps, scoring lines at upper right, small toned spot

FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1934 $40.00 WINE WITH FULL TABLET. VERY FEW ARE KNOWN.

The high-denomination wine stamps came into use when the law was changed, allowing revenue stamps to be affixed to the case rather than each individual bottle. They were issued in booklet form, perforated only at left. The first series (Scott RE56-RE59) was used prior to Prohibition and on religious and medicinal wine during Prohibition. They were reprinted in 1934 after Prohibition (Scott RE107A-RE107D). These reprints are considerably scarcer than their earlier counterparts. Perhaps a dozen or so are known of this denomination, and virtually all have faults. This example, without repairs, is very desirable and is only the third we have offered since keeping computerized records
