Sale 1140, Lot 1123, Postage Due1c Rose (J59). Lightly hinged, selvage at top, exceptionally precise centering with wide margins, vivid color, remarkably fresh

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 1916 ONE-CENT PERF 10 UNWATERMARKED POSTAGE DUE ISSUE WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED. THIS SUPERB STAMP HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- BY FAR THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED AND SHARED BY NO OHERS.

The 1c Perf 10 stamps were printed on unwatermarked paper for only a brief time. Well-centered original-gum examples are exceedingly rare. This copy, with lightly hinged original gum, outstanding centering and fresh color is a condition rarity of the highest order.

With 1992 P.F. and 2016 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 90, SMQ $6,500.00 as 90). This is the only example to achieve this superior grade. The next highest in P.S.E.'s Population Report is VF-XF 85. By comparison, the highest graded J59 on the Philatelic Foundation's website is XF 90
