Danville Va., 10c Black entire (21XU4). Bold strikes of provisional handstamps at right, "Danville Va. Jan. 12" (1862) circular datestamp on homemade cover to Hugh Hamilton in Union Mills Va., some minor staining and backflap tear, otherwise Very Fine and extremely rare, the Calhoun census records only three examples (one with a General Issue stamp), only two are recorded in Crown which illustrates this example on p. 420, the other example in Crown has the provisional handstamp struck partly off the cover, ex Mueller and Dr. Brandon
