9c Salmon Red (415). Mint N.H., brilliant color on bright paper, mathematically perfect centering with Jumbo marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS MAGNIFICENT EXAMPLE OF THE 1914 9-CENT PERF 12 SINGLE-LINE WATERMARK ISSUE IS GRADED GEM 100 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE POSSIBLE ON THE GRADING CHART AND IT IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE IT.
This was the first 9c stamp issued as part of the Washington-Franklin series, and was intended for use especially on parcel post packages after the discontinuance of special stamps for that purpose. It was in use for approximately six months before the perforation gauge was changed from 12 to 10.
With 2013 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 100, SMQ $5,000.00 as 100). This is the highest grade possible on the grading chart and no others have achieved it. Only four others have graded higher than 95, demonstrating how difficult it is to obtain this issue in higher grades.
