24c Carmine Rose & Blue, 1918 Air Post (C3). Complete sheet of 100 with double plate nos. 8493/8492 and double "TOP" selvage, selvage at left with arrow, natural s.e. at right and bottom, approximately 58 stamps Mint N.H., some with small hinge slivers used to prevent additional perf separations, deep rich colors, spacing of vignette shows wheels closer to the bottom frame at the bottom of the sheet and further away towards the top of the sheet, some nicely centered stamps especially towards lower left, few usual natural gum bendsVERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL SHEET OF 100 OF THE FIRST UNITED STATES AIR POST STAMP, THE 24-CENT CARMINE ROSE AND BLUE DEPICTING THE CURTIS JENNY AIRPLANE. A WONDERFUL EXHIBITION ITEM.
After the sheet of the Inverted Jenny was discovered in 1918, the blue "TOP" was added to the margin of the vignette plate to facilitate inspection of sheets. Shortly afterwards the red "TOP" was added to the frame plate, in a different font.
