CUBA, 1899, 2-1/2c on 2-1/2c Carmine (223 or 223A). Tied by "Mil. P. Sta. No. 22, Bayamo, Cuba, Mar. 2, 1899" duplex with large open square grid (Baker Type C-7) on cover to Napa Cal., red wax seal and receiving backstamp, signed by acting postmaster and with purple handstamp at top left, some wear and soiling, stamp with faults, still scarce, this predates the March 14, 1899 date that Gordon recorded as the earliest (and only) date known from this acting postmaster
