30c Orange (38). Used with three 5c Brown, Ty. II (30A), one wrapped around right edge, tied by red grid cancels on 3c Red on White Star Die entire (U26) to Havre, France, sender's ship directive "Str. Adriatic", matching "New York Paid 36 May 14" credit datestamp, red Havre arrival datestamp (May 26, 1861), some gum stains around perfs, right stamp has small corner flaw and crease, otherwise Fine, the use of the Star Die entire and addressee's name -- Madame Alfred Quesnel -- suggest that this might have originated in New Orleans and was carried by Adams Express during May 1861, the Quesnel family lived in New Orleans and two family members enrolled in the Confederate States Army
