12c Black (17). Ample margins to just touched, crisp grayish shade, used with Hawaii, 1853, 5c Blue, Thick White Wove (5), ample margins to just clear, faint toned spot, red "Honolulu * U.S. Postage Paid * Jan. 7" (1857) circular datestamp on buff cover to Titus M. Coan at Yale College in New Haven Conn., the United States and Hawaiian stamps were left uncancelled in Hawaii, both tied by "San Francisco Cal. 5 Feb." circular datestamp when mail was bagged for Panama sailing, at one time the letters of the addressee's last name were erased and rewrittenVERY FINE. AN ATTRACTIVE AND RARE UNITED STATES 1851 ISSUE AND HAWAIIAN KAMEHAMEHA III ISSUE MIXED-FRANKING COVER.
This cover carried on the E. L. Frost, which departed Honolulu on January 7, 1857, and arrived in San Francisco on January 31. It was carried to Panama on the regularly-scheduled monthly sailing.
