Sale 1107, Lot 164, Fancy Cancellations: On Cover3c Rose (65). Tied by bold complete strike of negative "Lincoln" and Stars in Circle fancy cancel, also tied by "Albany N.Y. Oct. 6" circular datestamp on J. Ludington & Co. oyster dealer corner card cover to Plattsburg N.Y., cover slightly reduced at right and nicked in bottom right corner

EXTREMELY FINE STRIKE OF THIS SCARCE LINCOLN MEMORIAL CANCELLATION ON AN OYSTER DEALER COVER.

Very few strikes of this Lincoln memorial cancellation are known on cover, and most are blurry or weak strikes. The New York State Comptroller in 1866 was Thomas Hillhouse. The Albany postmaster in 1866 was George Dawson. Both Hillhouse and Dawson were ardent pro-Union Republicans.
