3c Rose (65). Clear strike of Benedict Arnold's Leg in elaborate escutcheon fancy cancel of Brattleboro Vt., couple flaws incl. small tear at top, Very Fine strike of this rare cancel, we have not offered another example since our Sale 746 in 1992, before betraying the American cause Arnold was wounded in the foot during the Battle of Quebec, he suffered further injuries at the Battles of Ridgefield and Saratoga which ended his fighting career, a boot monument commemorating his pre-1780 service and his wounding is located at Saratoga National Historical Park, but it does not mention Arnold's name
