10c Green, Ty. II/III (14/15). With part of nine stamps, seriously defective with several stamps small remnants due to its unusual use, affixed to small leather gold rush pouch, other side of pouch with "Murphy's Cal. Jul. 3" circular datestamp and addressed to Yellow Spring Ohio, few markings slightly enhanced for readabilityA PHENOMENALLY RARE GOLD RUSH POKE, OR POUCH, WHICH UNDOUBTEDLY CARRIED GOLD NUGGETS OR DUST, BEARING A LARGE MULTIPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1855 ISSUE AND SENT FROM MURPHY'S CALIFORNIA TO OHIO. A REMARKABLE ARTIFACT OF THE GOLD RUSH ERA.
This likely contained about 4-1/2 ounces of gold, as the nine 10c stamps would have paid the rate of 10c per half ounce.
