Nov. 17, 1861" circular datestamp and Congressman (and fellow prisoner) Alfred Ely's free frank on cover to Rochester N.Y., franked at the time of Ely's imprisonment in this Confederate prison, it was secretly smuggled out, some edgewear incl. small piece missing at top, Very Fine, Congressman Ely was captured while observing the First Battle of Bull Run and was ultimately released six months later
