2c Carmine, Ty. I (265). Bright color, tied by "New York N.Y. May 2 5-PM 1895" machine cancel on First Day cover to local address, Lawyer's Mortgage Insurance Co. return address, stamp lifted to verify watermarkVERY FINE. THIS IS THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE DAY OF USE OF THE NEW WATERMARKED ISSUE.
A postal document specified that the new watermarked stamps would be released to the public on May 2, 1895. This is the only recorded use of Scott 265 on this day.
