90c Carmine, H. Grill (144). Block of four, cork cancel, bright color, grills show clearly on two stamps, faint on a third, appears well-centered due to reperfing at top and one side, short sealed tear at lower rightVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE USED BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 1870 90-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE WITH H GRILL.
There are probably no more than four used blocks of the 90c 1870 Grill (including one block of seven). This is the first we have offered since our 2001 Twigg-Smith sale.
Ex Krug. With 1954 P.F. certificate stating "it is a genuine block of #144 only if kept in this form" implying that one stamp does not show a grill and not mentioning any faults. Scott Retail $13,500.00
