Plate 9-A, Type X (Westerberg Position 2), huge margins to full including part of adjoining stamp at bottom, tied by square grid cancel, red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid Feb. 17" (1866) circular datestamp on buff cover to Mrs. Spencer in Sherman N.Y., used with United States 5c Brown (76), tied by target and "San Francisco Cal. Mar. 19" double-circle datestamp, sender's directive "Via San Francisco and Panama" at left, slightly reduced at left and some wear, Hawaii stamp with tear at topVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE AND DESIRABLE UNITED STATES AND 1865 5-CENT "HAWAIIAN POSTAGE" MIXED-FRANKING COVER.
The sender's notation "Via San Francisco and Panama" is an unusual reference to the Panama route.
