Rich colors, used with horizontal pair of 2c Red Brown (146), tied by three strikes of unusual circle of eight wedges cancel, red "New York 24 Sep. 1" (1870) credit datestamp on blue 1870 folded letter to Cadiz, Spain, containing an invoice for pipe staves consigned to Jose Esteban Gomez, red "London Paid 13 SP 70" transit datestamp, red oval "PD" handstamp, sender's directive "Batavia" at top left and carried on that Cunarder which departed New York Sep. 1 and arrived Queenstown Sep. 12, few faintly gum toned perfsVERY FINE. Ten 24c 1869 covers to Spain are recorded in the 1869 PRA census, but one of these (with 1c and 3c stamps, ex Ishikawa) has been declared a forgery, leaving nine genuine covers. The cover offered here and two others like it are not listed in the census, which brings the total to 12 known, including seven with this combination.
