5c Brown, Ty. II (30A). Horizontal pair, bright shade nicely complemented by blue "Louisville Ky. Aug. 18" double-circle datestamp, Very Fine and choice, we are reasonably certain this pair originated on an Adams Express Company thru-the-lines cover from a Confederate State, based on the date (August 18, probably 1861) and the few covers known with 5c 1860 stamps used in such a manner, impossible to prove, but that is our gut instinct, with 1989 P.F. certificate
