1c Blue, Ty. IV, Triple Transfer, One Inverted (23 var). Position 81L1L, part disturbed original gum, much better impression than usual and wide left margin shows the lines of the inverted transfer (a vestige of the first entries made on Plate 1 Early), trivial edge toning at right and tiny piece of top right margin reattached, otherwise Fine, an incalculably rare stamp, the Triple Transfer/One Inverted stamps from Plate 1 Late are very scarce with perforations (Scott 23 vs. Scott 9) -- this is one of the few original-gum examples our firm has sold in 80+ years -- because of condition problems, it will be affordable to almost all 1c 1851-57 specialists, who will no doubt appreciate its phenomenal rarity
