24c Lilac, Specimen Ovpt. Ty. A. (70S-A). Wide margins with interpane centerline margin at right, ms. "Issued 1861" on back, Extremely Fine and undoubtedly the finest example of this rare Specimen 1861 stamp extant, with 1953 P.F. certificate identifying the stamp as Lilac -- Lilac is not a Scott-listed shade of No. 70, this appears to be No. 78 Lilac, perhaps there was confusion at the time this Specimen was listed, we are following the current Scott Catalogue, but we recommend the editors change the listing to No. 78S
