PUERTO RICO, 1900, 1c-10c Regular and Postage Dues, "Puerto Rico" Ovpts., Special Printing (212SP-216SP, J1SP-J3SP). Complete set of eight, dues with part imprint at top, 1c and 10c dues Mint N.H. with h.r. in selvage, others lightly hinged, small h.r., 1c and 2c regulars with violet "Special Surcharge" backstamp which does not show thru, 2c regular with light crease, 8c and 10c regulars with couple short perfsFINE AND RARE SET OF THE "PUERTO RICO" SPECIAL PRINTINGS. ONLY 100 SETS WERE PRODUCED
In 1900 one pane of 100 stamps of each was prepared for display at the Paris and Pan-American Expositions. The 5c, 8c and 10c were never regularly issued with the "Puerto Rico" spelling and so are only known as Special Printings. Many were destroyed after the exhibitions. This set lacks the "Specimen" handstamps.
