Sale 1048, Lot 215, 5c and 10c 1847 Issue5c Red Brown (1). Horizontal pair, margins to in, tied by red grid cancel, matching "Potomac Steamboat Sep. 29" route agent's circular datestamp on grayish blue 1850 folded cover to Havana, Cuba, instructions on back read "Messrs. Thierman & Pringle will oblige us by forwarding this letter pr. 'Isabel' Steamer - under cover addressed to Alex Baskin Esq. Havana. New York 28 Sept. 1850", additional notation reads "received too late for the boat trip of the 'Isabel'", receipt docketing indicates arrival on Oct. 23, vertical file fold affects right stamp and cover with some wear, Fine appearance and a very rare use, prepaid to Charleston and then carried outside of the mails to Cuba, one of only three recorded 1847 issue uses to Cuba, unlisted in Alexander census book
