HAWAII, 1893, 5c Ultramarine, Category I Double Red Ovpt. (59d). Horizontal pair with part imprint selvage at left, left stamp the error with strong double overprint, also showing trace of additional overprint at far left of selvage, part disturbed original gum, few minor perf separations between stamps sensibly reinforced (intact between stamp and selvage)VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1893 5-CENT PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT DOUBLE OVERPRINT. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH THE PART IMPRINT SELVAGE.
Only ten stamps in one sheet were doubly overprinted (Category I), of which eight surviving examples are reported.
