Sale 1040, Lot 1282, 1875 Reprint of 1857-60 Issue (Scott 40-47)30c Yellow Orange, Reprint (46). Without gum as issued, rich color on bright fresh paper, exceptionally choice centering

EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1857 REPRINT. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE STAMP WITH SUCH CHOICE CENTERING.

The Continental Bank Note Company reprinted the 30c stamp from the original plate of 200 subjects. 10,000 were printed (50 impressions). Only 480 were sold; the remaining 9,520 were destroyed on July 23, 1884, by order of the Postmaster General.

The 30c is one of the tightest-margined of the series. This is an extraordinary stamp, by virtue of its choice centering.

With 1965 P.F. and 2004 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90; SMQ $8,000.00). Only two have graded higher (both at 95) and only five others share this grade.
