Jan 18" (1865) double-circle datestamp on buff prisoner-of-war cover from Augusta, endorsed "Per Flag of Truce" to Jeffersonville Ind., forwarded to Green Castle Ind., prisoner's endorsement at left "W. S. Marshall, Adjt 51st Ind. Vols, Prisoner of War Augusta Ga", manuscript "Examined E.A.T." Confederate censor's marking (unlisted in Harrison), manuscript "Ford 3" for forwarding postage, pencil note "Nov 26 1864" probably refers to origin date, some edgewear, still Very Fine, Sgt. William S. Marshall was captured at Rowe Gap on May 3, 1863, he was at Libby Prison from May 13, 1863, to May 6, 1864, Danville Prison from May 7, 1864, and was later known to be at Camp Asylum (S.C.) -- Sgt. Marshall's endorsement and the pencil correspondence notation place him in a Confederate prison in Augusta Ga. in November 1864 -- Galen Harrison reports that no covers are known from the Richmond County Jail or cotton factory that were utilized as prisons in Augusta, so this is obviously a very rare Confederate prison cover
