Sale 1037, Lot 2918, Slavery and the Civil War, Lincoln, Patriotics, Sanitary Fair3c Rose (65). Centered to top left, tied by "Lancaster Pa. May 5, 1863" circular datestamp on cover to McKees Falls Pa., with illustrated Patriotic design depicting the steamship Star of the West in blue, embossed "Loyal" across front and "Border State" above the ship, J. H. Southworth imprint on back, stamp is affixed over blue "Held for Postage" handstamp, back with "Lancaster Pa. May 2, 1863" circular datestamp, apparently held for three days until the sender paid for and applied the 3c postage, stamp with creases and couple minor cover stains, otherwise Very Fine, a beautiful and rare patriotic design
