Joseph Roberts to Benjamin Coates in Philadelphia, contents incl. discussion of different crops under cultivation, red "New-York Jun. 5" circular datestamp and matching "Ship" handstamp, blue manuscript "27" rate, endorsed "Madonna" at lower left, some wear, Very Fine, the sender would become the first President of Liberia after independence in 1848 and would serve in that post again almost two decades later, ex Fosdyke Ray
