"I hope...to see the day when our [the Society's] Atlantic cities and towns will be thronged, their wharves crowded, and vessels freighted with the poor unfortunate sons of Africa, returning to the land of their fathers...", red "Columbus Ohio Feb. 24" circular datestamp with matching "Paid" handstamp and manuscript "25" rate to Chimney Point Vt., sender's endorsement above rate, some minor soiling, Very Fine, the Society was founded in 1816 to promote the return of freed slaves to Africa and was instrumental in founding Liberia
