Sale 1034, Lot 61, 1857-60 Issue and 1875 Reprint (Scott 18-47)10c Green, Ty. III (33). Gorgeous color, with part of selvage at left, neat strike of circular datestamp, beautiful centering with wide margins for this difficult issue

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 10-CENT TYPE III, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 JUMBO BY P.S.E. THIS IS ALSO EXCEEDINGLY RARE WITH THE SELVAGE.

The first perforated 10c stamps produced by Toppan Carpenter from sheets printed from Plate 1 are notorious among collectors for their poor centering. The example offered here, with such beautiful centering and with selvage, is a remarkable rarity. A review using Power Search found only one other with selvage (on a cover).

With 2000 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $1,950.00 as 95, $7,500.00 as 98). Only one has graded higher (at 98, offered in our recent Natalee Grace sale) and one other shares this grade.
