10c Orange Brown, Ty. II, Vertical Watermark (283a). Beautifully centered with wide margins, vivid color, circular cancel, Extremely Fine Gem example of this overlooked watermark variety, seldom offered and impossible to find in superb used condition, with 2011 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $450.00), we do not know why this issue is priced at only 1.5x the normal Horizontal Watermark issue in SMQ, as there are five stamps of Scott 283 that grade 95 or better and only this single example of 283a at 95, Scott Retail for 283a is also double that for 283
