1c Blue, Ty. IV (23). Plate 1L, recut once at top and bottom, lovely rich color and proof-like impression, essentially perfect centering with margins clearly showing the recut characteristics which define the type, neat town cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 ONE-CENT PERFORATED TYPE IV WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
Most examples of this issue have perforations either touching or cutting into the recut lines. The example offered here, with intact recut lines at top and bottom, is the rare exception to that rule.
With 2010 P.F. and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $7,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only two others, a population which has been unchanged for three years.
