Sale 1027, Lot 91, 1879 Continental Bank Note Co. Issue (Scott 182-191)90c Carmine (191). Gorgeous centering with wide and balanced margins, brilliant color, detailed impression, unusual San Francisco circular datestamp with bent rim of cancel, long and full perforations all around

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1879 90-CENT AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE. AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT ISSUE TO OBTAIN IN SUCH PRISTINE CONDITION.

The 90c American Bank Note issue, Scott 191, is probably the most common of the regularly issued 90c Bank Notes, and is readily found in used condition. However, it is extremely difficult to find in sound and centered used condition. Many were used on parcels and were heavily cancelled or damaged in transit. Those without heavy cancels seem to be off center or to have smaller margins. As another indication of rarity, P.S.E. has only graded four used examples higher than XF-90 to date.

Ex Hinrichs. With 1998 P.F. certificate.
