90c Carmine, H. Grill (144). Two horizontal rows of clear grill points, cork cancel and also part of red cancel leaves most of design clearly visible, choice centering with Jumbo margins, deep rich color on bright paperEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A HUGE EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 90-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE GRILLED ISSUE. AN EXCEEDINGLY DIFFICULT STAMP TO FIND IN THIS SUPERB CONDITION -- THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE.
For no apparent reason, examples of this issue with wide margins tend to have small flaws. We have encountered less than a dozen copies which are sound and also have wide margins. The example offered here is easily one of the finest.
With 1999 P.F. certificate.
