Category — Columbian Issue (Scott 230-245)
$2.00 Columbian (242). Perfectly centered with wide and balanced margins, radiant color and crisp impression on bright paper, neat strike of circular datestamp at topEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS STUNNING STAMP HAS BEEN AWARDED THE GRADE OF SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE AND ONE OF ONLY THREE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE.
Used examples of the $2.00 Columbian are difficult to find in high grades. The margins are never Jumbo, and are rarely wide. It is often found with a heavy cancel which obliterates part of the design. The stamp offered here is the exception -- the margins are wide and perfectly balanced, the color is beautiful, the perforations are long and even, and the cancel is well-placed and not too heavy. It is easily the finest we have ever encountered.
With 1994 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $7,700.00). This is the highest grade awarded to date and only two others have achieved this grade.
