12c Blackish Violet (162). Used with 2c Brown (157), tied by multiple strikes of Star in Circle, "Petersburg Va. Aug. 1" circular datestamp (likely 1874), on registered cover to Forkland Va., bold "No. 54" registry marking at left, 2c stamp with faults at right from placement over edge of cover, few light soiling spots and backflap partly missing, otherwise Fine and rare use which likely pays the 8c registry fee plus double the 3c letter rate, the 12c Continental Banknote issue is rarely seen on a domestic cover
