3c Rose (65). Tied by target and by "Washington D.C. Jul. 2?, 64" double-circle datestamp on light yellow cover with green and red 9th Corps, 4th Division Patriotic design to Wausau N.Y., Magee imprint at left, with original enclosure which reads in part "Wilcox's Division I believe has mined the rebels on their front. The mouth of the mine is six feet high and four feet wide. The shaft or passage is some two hundred feet in length and winds up directly under a large rebel fort.", minor edgewear, Very Fine, this is a companion to a prisoner's cover offered in our Sale 810 (lot 2437), accompanied by July 1960 Confederate Philatelist article
