Sale 1026, Lot 1751, Stampless Covers"Natchez 6th April 1797". Dateline on folded letter addressed to David Clark in Clarksville, written by Don Manuel Gayoso de Lemos, contents incl. "I received the same intelligence from New Orleans concerning the promotion of the Baron and mine but until the dispatches come there is no certainty", vertical file fold, minor splitting along folds, still Very Fine, very scarce early use from the transitional period from Spanish rule to American, the sender was Spanish governor of the Natchez district who later became governor of Louisiana, in 1795 Pinckney's Treaty established amicable boundaries between Spanish and American interests, the Natchez district was given to the Americans but the handover was not without delay
