1865, 5c Blue on Blue, "Hawaiian Postage" (21). Plate 9-A, Type IV (Westerberg Position 8), large margins all around, tied by bold strike of Honolulu target cancel, used with United States 1863 5c Brown (76), tied by San Francisco target cancel on blue cover to Oliver W. Sturges in Bunker Hill Ill., red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid May 7" (1866) circular datestamp and "San Francisco Cal. Jun,. 4" double-circle datestamp, receipt docketing at left, manuscript "Adv" (Advertised) and small "Jul. 1" handstamp, U.S. stamp barely affected from placement near edge of cover, right side flap of cover replacedVERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL MIXED-FRANKING COVER WITH THE 1865 5-CENT "HAWAIIAN POSTAGE" NUMERAL ISSUE AND UNITED STATES 5-CENT 1863 ISSUE.
This cover was carried on the brig Hesperian, which departed Honolulu on May 8 and arrived in San Francisco on June 3, 1866.
