Baltimore Md., 10c Blue on Manila entire (3XU3). Clear strikes of signature, "PAID" and "10" in oval provisional handstamps, neat blue "Baltimore Md. Mar. 3" circular datestamp on cover to Silas Parsons in Huntsville Ala., with original 1846-dated enclosure, some slight edgewear.VERY FINE. THIS EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT BALTIMORE PROVISIONAL ENTIRE IS POSSIBLY THE ONLY EXAMPLE KNOWN ON MANILA PAPER.
The Hayes census lists three 10c entires on Buff paper, but notes the example here "may be on manila paper". After studying the paper and comparing it to the previous lot we agree it is on Manila. The other two Buff envelopes are: 1) Feb. 17 (1847) to Mr. Isaac Dillon, Zalesville O., ex Caspary, Lilly, Horner, Weill, Hill and Berlin; and 2) Mar. 1 (1847), to Thomas B. Cooper, Cedar Bluff Ala., whereabouts unknown. The two Buff envelopes were used almost a year after the example offered here.
With 1964 P.F. certificate.
