6c Carmine, 10c Brown (148, 150). Cork cancels, part strike of "Yokohama, Japan" circular datestamp on 1872 folded cover to Montreal, Canada, sender's route directive "Overland" at upper left, C.H.S. Thorel & Co. Yokohama merchant's handstamp, Montreal "Jy 23 '72" receiving backstamp, file folds crease the 10c stamp, Fine appearance, only three such covers from Japan to Canada via the U.S. are recorded, this was carried on the Pacific Mail Steamship Co. America, which departed Yokohama on Jun. 22, 1872 and arrived in San Francisco on Jul. 13, 1872, it went overland by railroad to Canada, the rate from Japan to the U.S. was 10c, and the treaty rate from the U.S. to Canada was 6c
