New-York Penny Post Jan. 29 10 O'C. Red double-line datestamp boldly struck on Jan. 25, 1840 folded letter to Nazareth Pa. with ms. "Via Easton" in same hand as address, red "New-York Jan. 29" circular datestamp, ms. "10" rate for 31-80 miles, Jan. 31 receipt docketing inside, Very Fine, according to the list compiled by Robert Meyersburg in the April 1996 Penny Post, this is the earliest known use of the New-York Penny Post handstamp, also a scarce use of this local to the post office for regular mails
