Civil War Prisoner Flag of Truce Covers. Eight covers, each franked with 3c 1861 Issue (65), both northbound and southbound flag-of-truce uses, prisons from which covers originated incl. Libby Prison in Richmond with ms. "Ex. J. Scott" and Old Point Comfort double-circle datestamp on 1863 folded letter to Ohio from Union Capt. D.S. Caldwell, unusual use as the letter was not enclosed in an envelope, also 1862 cover from Salisbury Prison to Philadelphia with ms. "Ex. 9", 1864 cover with original enclosure from Rock Island Barracks with blurry strike of examined handstamp, Johnson's Island outer cover to Spring Garden Va. with ms. examiners marking, Sandusky O. and Richmond Va. datestamps as well as "Due 10" straightline for C.S.A. postage, 1863 cover with original contents from Camp Chase to Wheeling Va. with ms. examiners marking, two May 1865 late uses from Point Lookout to Murfreesboro Tenn., final item is not a prisoner cover but an interesting letter from Col. W.H. Hoffman to Maj. Gen. E. A. Hitchcock (Union Commissioner of Exchange) re: prisoner exchanges with references to C.S.A. Gen. J.E.B. Stewart, some cover and stamp faults to be expected, overall Fine appearing and fascinating group of these desirable prisoner covers
