Positions 4-5, horizontal pair, full margins virtually all around (tops of a few ornaments barely touched at top right), tied by blue "Petersburg Va. 5cts Oct. 24" integral-rate circular datestamp on piece, lifted and hinged in place, faint toned spot and corner crease on right stamp which would barely be visible if the pair had not been liftedEXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. PAIRS OF THE PETERSBURG POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ARE RARE. THIS IS THE FINEST OF THE THREE OFF-COVER PAIRS KNOWN TO US.
