Sep. 1" circular datestamp on 1877 cover to Salem Mass., with "Executive Mansion" imprint, addressed in the hand of Webb Hayes, son of and secretary to President Rutherford B. Hayes, incl. original enclosure on Executive Mansion letterhead, stamp with some perf toning, otherwise Very Fine, Webb Hayes fought in several wars, was a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and was the founder of the forerunner to Union Carbide
