Sale 1011, Lot 1537, 1c-3c 1861-68 Issue (Scott 63-65)3c Rose (65). Tied by "Alexandria Va. Feb. 18" double-circle datestamp on 1862 multicolored Magnus "Camp Scene from Photograph" patriotic cover to North Gage N.Y., with original Magnus multicolored lettersheet enclosure depicting Brig. Gen. Lander and 4pp detailed letter from a soldier, datelined "Sumner's Division, Camp California, Feb. 17th 1862", relating to part of his regiment being sent down the Mississippi on gun boats, camp life including references to daily deaths in his brigade, religion, and a glowing testimonial to his commanding general for being a man of god, stating "Under such a leader who would not be willing to be led on the field of battle or anywhere that he might purpose to lead them. Would they not be sure of victory, knowing that this leader is one who puts his trust in the God of battles?", stamp with folded perf tip at left, cover with couple rough edges at bottom left and missing part of top flap, still Very Fine, a desirable and beautiful Magnus cover and lettersheet with interesting soldier content
