Deep rich color, huge margins to just clear at bottom, tied by red grid with matching "New-York Oct. 30" circular datestamp on 1849 folded letter from Mahlon Day to Dr. Samuel Boyd Toby in Providence R.I., relating to the sale of books to Brown University, file fold well away from stamp, incredibly fresh and Very Fine, Mahlon Day was a prominent publisher and bookseller in New York, he was lost in the infamous wreck of the Collins Line's Arctic off Cape Race Newfoundland in 1854, where 350 people perished
