Cover bearing Great Britain, 1865-67, 4p Vermilion, 6p Red Violet (43, 51; SG 94, 97), 4p wing margin at right, tied by "B01" in barred oval handstamps of Alexandria, to Customs House in New York, neat "Cairo JA 20, 1871" circular datestamp, endorsed "Via Brindisi" and with red "2 Cents" credit handstamp to the U.S., indistinct red New York receiving datestamp, with original contents datelined "Horusko, Nubia/100 miles above Cataract, January 1st 1871", missing part of top flap, minor cover wear, Very Fine, attractive and fascinating use which must have been hand-carried from the expedition to enter the mails in Cairo, ex Starnes
