California and Western Stampless Covers. Six covers, first two with "Pan. & San. Fran. S.S." circular datestamp, May 27 and Jun. 29 respectively, first light but mostly readable strike on folded letter, second struck in red, partly off cover, small ms. "35" overstruck by bold New York "10" in circle due handstamp, third cover with perfect bold strike of "Nicaragua Line, In Advance of the Mail." oval handstamp to Virgin Bay, Nicaragua, faults incl. repair at top center, still presentable, extremely unusual use of this marking on mail to Nicaragua, fourth cover with "Noisy Carriers./Mail./77 Long Wharf S.F. Cal." framed handstamp struck in green on buff cover to West Dennis Mass., fifth cover Easton Md. to San Francisco, 40c rate and forwarded to Sonoma with ms. "12 -1/2", final item folded letter with sender's route endorsement "by Louises Extra Mail" -- Provo to Salt Lake City, datelined "Provo Augst. 26th 1860" from John Gerber to his son at Salt Lake City, letter begins: "I send this by Louises Mail who wishes to fetch his gun to protect him from the Bears in Provo Valley", Very Fine group
