FRANCE, 1850, 1fr Dark Carmine, Yellowish (9; Yvert 6). Six used stamps, each a distinctly different shade, identified by owner as "Carmin Cerise", "Carmin Vif", "Carmin Brun", "Carmin", "Carmin Clair" and "Carmin Fonce", all have four margins incl. some quite large, few different cancels incl. Star lozenge, diamond grids, few tiny imperfections, Very Fine, a desirable and scarce group, several qualify as individual lots but additional value is gained by having a reference group of these shades, the Carmine is ex Gill-Burrus
